Ellie Gilbertson

Ellie Gilbertson is the current Deputy Manager of the Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office. Prior to her appointment as EM-LA deputy manager in February 2023, Ellie served as EM-LA’s Office of Health, Operations, Safety, and Security (OHOSS) Director and was responsible for nuclear safety operations, including safety basis, readiness, criticality safety, safety system engineering, industrial safety, and emergency management. Additionally, she managed the oversight of all safeguards and security execution, including physical security, information security, personnel security and badging, and material control and accountability. Ellie was also responsible for the engineering safety and operations executions including fire protection, electrical safety, pressure safety, and nuclear maintenance as well as the facility representative team. She served as director for OHOSS in August 2017, and served as acting EM-LA deputy manager from June 2022 until February 2023. Ellie is the office lead for the EM-LA improvement team, addressing feedback received from the Federal Employee Viewpoint survey.

Before joining the EM-LA Field Office, Ellie worked in nuclear safety at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office and as a contractor with Los Alamos National Security (LANS) in nuclear safety, nuclear engineering, and explosives engineering. 

Ellie has an associate degree in Psychology from Labette Community College, a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Kansas State University with a secondary Teaching Certificate, and a master’s degree in Physics from Kansas State University.
