This report from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory quantifies Alaska's unique offshore wind resource capacity. Offshore Wind Energy Resource Assessment for Alaska supplements the existing 2016 Offshore Wind Energy Resource Assessment for the United States to establish an overall value proposition for the nation's offshore wind resources. The report provides the first quantitative evidence of Alaska's offshore wind energy potential—which is larger than all other U.S. coastal states combined. However, large-scale Alaskan offshore wind development presents distinct challenges not found in other locations, such as remote resources and distance from load centers.
