In 2016 there were 17.5 million light vehicles sold with over 2.1 million of them priced from $27,000 to $28,000 and another 1.7 million priced from $40,000 to $41,000 based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). In the $27,000 category, 52% of the vehicles sold were cars, but in the $40,000 category, almost all (98%) were light trucks. Nearly 600,000 vehicles were sold with MSRPs over $61,000. Overall, half of all light vehicles sold in 2016 were priced below $30,000.
