Johnson Controls is working to increase energy density of vehicle batteries while reducing manufacturing costs for lithium-ion battery cells.
April 15, 2013Johnson Controls’ Holland Technology Center in Milwaukee recently developed and built a new lithium-ion battery cell and accompanying system that substantially increases the energy density of plug-in electric vehicle battery cells. The company matched EERE’s investment and is using this technology to develop a standard, commercialized lithium-ion cell for plug-in electric vehicles. Johnson Controls is building on this success with a project underway to improve manufacturing processes that will reduce manufacturing costs for lithium-ion vehicle battery cells by 50%.
