May 16, 2022The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hydrogen Program will hold its virtual 2022 Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting (AMR) June 6–8, 2022. This year's AMR plenary program will include an update on the deliverables and progress made by DOE on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act hydrogen provisions. Those provisions include:
- Hydrogen electrolysis: Authorized $1 billion from FY22 through FY26 for research, development, demonstration (RD&D) and commercialization and deployment program to improve efficiency, improve durability, and reduce the costs of producing hydrogen through electrolysis.
- Hydrogen manufacturing and recycling: Authorized $0.5 billion for manufacturing RD&D to advance new technologies and techniques for manufacturing equipment for hydrogen production, processing, delivery, storage, and use; and applying RD&D of innovative and practical approaches to increase reuse and recycling of hydrogen technologies.
- Regional hydrogen hubs: Authorized $8 billion for at least four regional hydrogen hubs—at least one producing hydrogen from fossil, one from nuclear, and one from renewables.
- National hydrogen strategy and roadmap: Develop a national strategy and roadmap to facilitate widescale production, processing, delivery, storage, and use of hydrogen.
- Hydrogen production qualifications: Develop initial standard for carbon intensity of hydrogen.
