-- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) – Richland, WA
DOE Total Funding:  $2,975,000
FY23 DOE Funding: $925,000
Project Term: April 1, 2020 – September 30, 2023
Funding Type: AOP Project (Direct-Funded Lab Project)

Project Objective

A critical element of DOE BTO’s R&D portfolio is partnering with industry and government organizations to help guide research and speed the market introduction and adoption of energy-efficient technologies. These partnerships can take a number of forms, including technology-to-market projects such as technology campaigns designed to support new or underutilized energy-efficient technologies. In this project, PNNL will scale up technology-to-market competitions focused on speeding adoption of 1) smart diagnostic tools to help ensure quality HVAC installations and maintenance, and 2) high-efficiency storm windows and insulating panels to improve window performance. Additionally, PNNL will coordinate with the Adding Insulation When Re-Siding field validation project to identify market barriers, develop market adoption resources, identify key partners, and design a campaign approach.

Project Impact

This project aligns with the Biden Administration's goals of achieving carbon pollution-free electricity by 2035 and net-zero emissions economy-wide by 2050, benefiting all Americans. DOE is dedicated to advancing science and engineering, promoting clean energy jobs through research, development, demonstration, and deployment, and ensuring environmental justice and inclusion for underserved communities. All funded activities under this AOP drive innovation and deployment of critical clean energy technologies, supporting the government's comprehensive approach to addressing the climate crisis.
