2016 Better Buildings Summit Brings Together Leading Organizations
Today wraps up the last day of the 2016 Better Buildings Summit with final keynote addresses delivered by Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro. The first day of the 2016 Better Buildings Summit convened on Monday, May 9 in Washington, D.C. and opened with remarks from Better Buildings Director Maria Vargas and EERE Deputy Assistant Kathleen Hogan, followed by the Better Plants Technology Transfer Lunch. Later that day, AMO Director Mark Johnson participated in an armchair discussion on key trends and future directions in industrial energy efficiency.

AMO's Deputy Director Dr. Rob Ivester to Speak at the 2016 Energy Efficiency Global Forum – May 12
EE Global will host the 2016 Energy Efficiency Global Forum on May 11-12, 2016 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. This invite-only event will feature discussions on how energy efficiency can be made into a sustainable business strategy and survey how utilities, regulators, legislators and companies are including cost-effective energy efficiency procedures into their business to help meet increasing demand. AMO Deputy Director Dr. Rob Ivester will give remarks on the role of technology in understanding the opportunities in the industrial space, next generation filtration and separation technologies as well as pumps.

AMO Director Dr. Mark Johnson to Moderate Manufacturing Panel at 2016 AEMC Summit – May 12
The Energy Department and the Council on Competitiveness will host the 2016 American Energy & Manufacturing Competitiveness (AEMC) Northeast Regional Summit: Innovating for a Clean Energy Future on Thursday, May 12 at the City College of New York. AMO Director, Dr. Mark Johnson will moderate the Investing in Shared Infrastructure and Innovation Ecosystems for Global Competitiveness panel where participates will share insight into engaging partners to invest in a shared infrastructure and the critical elements of innovation ecosystems. Panel participation will include leadership from IACMI, Deere & Company, United Technologies Research Center, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and X-FAB Texas.

EVENT: 2016 DOE Advanced Manufacturing Office Peer Review – June 14-15, 2016
The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) will hold a Peer Review of its Research and Development Projects, Research and Development Facilities and Analysis activities at the Key Bridge Marriott in Rosslyn, Virginia on June 14-15, 2016. This two-day review will bring together leading technology experts from the industrial, academic, and government sectors to provide their view on the effectiveness and impact of the program.

AMO Director Dr. Mark Johnson Leads Discussion on Advanced Materials, Manufacturing, and Efficient Building Technology at National Lab Impact Summit
EERE hosted this year's National Lab Impact Summit in Golden, Colorado on May, 4, 2016. I was held at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. More than 300 top executives, government officials, and technology researchers came together to showcase how private-sector and National Lab partnerships are successfully addressing critical technology challenges and learn how companies are building a competitive advantage by partnering with the National Labs. AMO's director Dr. Mark Johnson was the moderator and opening speaker for the Advanced Materials, Manufacturing, and Efficient Building Technology session which featured topics on the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation, High Performance Computing for Manufacturing, and Friction Stir Welding.
At the event, Energy Department Assistant Secretary David Danielson discussed the early successes of the Lab Impact Initiative. Watch the video.

Eight AMO Water and Energy Projects Selected for Small Business Innovation Research Program Phase I Award
DOE announced 61 new projects led by small businesses in 25 states to develop clean energy technologies with the potential for commercialization and job creation. These projects are funded by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) through the Energy Department's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Of those 61 projects, eight were AMO projects at the nexus of water and energy and included innovative water desalination concepts from California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. These awardees will receive $150,000 each to help small businesses improve manufacturing processes, boost the efficiency of buildings, increase transportation sustainability, and generate electricity from renewable sources.

AMO Innovations Draw Crowds at Hannover Messe 2016
At the end of April over 190,000 visitors took over the city of Hanover, Germany for the 70th annual Hannover Messe, the world's largest industrial conference. With both a booth display and a speaking engagement from AMO Director Mark Johnson, the Department of Energy (DOE) had a forum to engage with and educate attendees about AMO's work and partnership opportunities.
