Students, teachers, and administrators are invited to go on a free field trip (including transportation) to Solar Decathlon Education Days.
January 22, 2020
Do you have students interested in STEM? This is an opportunity unlike any other. Students, teachers, and administrators are invited to "Solar Decathlon Education Days." Pick one of five available dates: June 24, June 25, June 30, July 1, or July 2, 2020 for a free field trip to see this grand student competition.
This summer, the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is returning to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in partnership with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition that challenges student teams to design and build highly efficient and innovative homes powered by renewable energy that will be open to the public and a prime educational opportunity to learn about energy sources, energy efficiency, building, materials, and STEM basics.
Grants will be available to help offset the cost of all-day field trips.
The official Education Days for Solar Decathlon will be June 24, June 25, June 30, July 1, and July 2. Your summer program participants will have the opportunity for an all-day field trip that includes visiting the Solar Decathlon homes and interacting with the students who designed and built them. There will be workshops and time for lunch. Students, teachers, and chaperones will also have the opportunity to win prizes!
Solar Decathlon has established a worldwide reputation as a successful educational program and workforce development opportunity for thousands of students. More than 40,000 students and 3,400 teachers participated in "Education Days" related events.
