The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) supports DOE’s mission by accelerating the commercialization of new energy technologies. To advance this work, OTC leads the development of DOE’s Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Reports, which provide a shared fact base for public and private sector stakeholders to better understand what it will take for emerging technologies to achieve self-sustaining, commercial-scale deployment. The Liftoff reports inform technology commercialization strategies and guide investment decisions.
First published in March 2023, the Liftoff Reports serve as a tool for ongoing dialogue with the private sector and the broader energy ecosystem. Each report examines a specific technology or suite of technologies, outlining the current state, potential pathways to commercial liftoff, and the key challenges and solutions to enable market scale. The reports do not represent DOE policy or strategy.
OTC develops these reports in collaboration with the Loan Programs Office (LPO), the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), and other DOE program offices. OTC leads the structuring, quantitative analysis, and stakeholder engagement efforts that form the foundation of each report.
