Letter to DuPont and Decision to Build Plant

letter from President Trueman to DuPont regarding future atomic plant

President Truman sends a formal letter to DuPont, specifically requesting their expertise for the design and construction of a new atomic project. The Decision was then made to build nuclear facility in South Carolina, later to be called the "Savannah River Plant" (SRP).

The Savannah River Site will celebrate its 70th anniversary on Nov. 28, 2020. On this date in 1950, President Harry S. Truman requested the DuPont Company to design, build and operate what was then known as the Savannah River Plant.
