Alexander Borman currently serves as Acting Chief Counsel for the Office of Counsel within the Department of Energy Office of Inspector General (DOE OIG). Mr. Borman joined DOE OIG in June 2019 and holds the permanent position of Deputy Chief Counsel. As Acting Chief Counsel, Mr. Borman oversees all legal operations and ensures that the Office of Counsel’s attorneys and paraprofessionals provide accurate, timely, and actionable advice on all legal issues material to the organization’s mission and operations.
Mr. Borman began his legal career with a clerkship at the Drug Enforcement Administration through the Department of Justice (DOJ) Honors Program, primarily focused on hearings and appeals pertaining to the revocation of controlled substance registrations held by healthcare professionals accused of misconduct. Prior to working at DOE OIG, Mr. Borman also performed contract legal work and served as an attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs. In the latter position, Mr. Borman assisted Veterans Law Judges with the adjudication of disability benefits appeals.
Mr. Borman received a BA in Political Science and Economics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He later earned from the University of Maryland a master’s degree in public policy, with an emphasis on international security and economic policy, as well as a Juris Doctor degree in law.
