Angelos Kokkinos is a Senior Advisor for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In this role, he advises EERE on the research, development, validation, and effective utilization of renewable energy and efficiency technologies that improve the affordability, reliability, resiliency, and security of the American energy system. He has over four decades of experience in the energy industry, working to improve fossil fuel, biomass, refuse, and concentrated solar technologies.
Most recently, he was a volunteer judge for the Elon Musk Foundation’s XPrize Carbon Removal competition. He also previously served at DOE as an Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Carbon Management and Advanced Fossil Technologies in the Office of Fossil Energy, where he planned and managed the portfolio for critical minerals, carbon capture & sequestration, extreme thermal environment materials, combustion turbines, gasification, hydrogen and carbon products.
Prior to his role at DOE, he was Chief Technology Officer for Babcock Power, Inc., a major supplier of steam generation and environmental control equipment for utility (solar, nuclear and fossil) and industrial applications. He is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Achievement Award in Energy Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He holds six U.S. Patents and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a MS in Fuel Science from the Pennsylvania State University.
