Mr. Robert “Bob” Meloche of the Office of Worker Safety and Health Assistance (EHSS-12) recently graduated from the Leadership Development Program offered through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s Center for Leadership & Innovation. This program focuses on shared group experiences and environments to intensify and accelerate leadership development and learning by challenging the status quo of the leadership and management practices of participating leaders. The LDP’s design creates a common language and consistent focus on various intrapreneurship, innovation, and leadership concepts to enable consistent and candid conversation among the participants. This alignment drives transparency, accountability, and it fosters healthy conflict throughout the represented organizations. The LDP places a consistent focus on this strategic alignment to increase the buy-in and engagement of the participants, resulting in organizations positioned for success.
The LDP is a six-month program which consists of six two-day sessions. It covers a variety of topics important for successful leaders to include Identifying Your Purpose, Neuroleadership, Perspective Taking, Building Trust, and Embracing Accountability. It challenges participants to push up against the edge of their current thinking and approaches every day, always striving to change the world through intentional synergistic leadership. Of his experience in the program, Mr. Meloche says “The program reinforced many of the concepts I learned during my military career, with a specific focus on working to my strengths. LDP helped me realize that my leadership skills take a nontraditional route. I am adept at influencing processes and people, guiding them to a common purpose and a beneficial outcome.”
With a recent promotion, Mr. Meloche has already begun taking charge of virtual and onsite assessments as a Safety & Occupational Health Manager and team leader on the Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Program (DOE-VPP) team. He feels that “I excel at facilitating group work and finding the common thread among disparate opinions. At the end of this course, I believe I will be better equipped to channel my leadership style and skills to guide and influence others,” and that his participation in the LDP will play a large role in his future success.
