SBIR Grant Selected for Award for SSL Technology in FY18

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has announced the selection of a Phase II Release 2 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project related to solid-state lighting (SSL), for funding through DOE’s Office of Science. Phase II grants are awarded to achieve the performance goals of the subject innovation or technology, after a project has successfully completed its proof-of-principle research and development under a Phase I grant awarded in the preceding year. This FY18 Phase II Release 2 project targets critical materials advances used in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for SSL and will explore the technical merit and performance potential of several innovative concepts that are expected to contribute to the achievement of the performance goals described in DOE’s SSL R&D Plan.

The SBIR program seeks to increase the participation of small businesses in federally sponsored innovative and novel research and development. To learn more about this program, visit http://science.energy.gov/sbir/.

The SBIR award directly related to SSL is:

  • OLEDWorks, LLC (Rochester, NY) – SBIR Phase 2; selected for its development of a cost-effective, ultra-thin, bendable, high-efficacy OLED light engine with outstanding color and >50,000-hour lifetime.
