FY17 DOE Funding: $320,919
Project Term: October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017
Funding Type: Lab Award

Project Objective

BuildingSync is a common schema for energy audit data, which allows energy audit data to be more easily aggregated, compared, and exchanged between different databases and software tools. This streamlines the energy audit process, improving the value of the data, minimizing duplication of effort for subsequent audits, and facilitating achievement of greater energy efficiency. During FY2017, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) seeks to transition the BuildingSync schema from the development phase into the marketplace.

Project Impact

As the BuildingSync schema is adopted in the market, it will create long-term value as an industry-standard collection format for energy audit data. Standardizing energy audit data can help energy auditors, software providers, building owners, utilities, and other entities by maximizing the value of collected data sets and informing cost-effective building improvements.
