Shelly Wilson is a Senior Regulatory Specialist at Longenecker & Associates (L&A) with over 30 years of experience managing complex, multi-program, multi-agency regulatory decisions at the Department of Energy, Department of Defense (DoD), and other sites. At L&A, Wilson has focused on facilitating a collaborative regulatory interface at Oak Ridge Reservation and other sites, assuring environmental progress and resolving areas of previous dispute.

Previously, Wilson served as the Permitting and Federal Facilities Liaison for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. In this role, Wilson cut historical regulatory timelines by about 40% through a collaborative approach, enabling new and expanding industries to startup in record time with community support, as well as faster federal facility cleanup. In 2018, her work was highlighted by the US Environmental Protection Agency Smart Sectors program as a national permitting best practice for permit timeliness and community engagement on a Boeing expansion.

Wilson was also responsible for orchestrating activities involving federal facilities, such as the high-level waste tank closure at the Savannah River Site. In this role, Wilson developed and led the state regulatory strategy for closure of six high-level waste tanks, combining requirements of all regulatory programs into one streamlined process with no stakeholder appeals. Wilson participated in the partnering cleanup process with DoD facilities, assisting timely cleanup of closing bases, such as Charleston Naval Complex, for beneficial re-use.

A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Wilson graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

Wilson serves on EMAB as a special government employee. She currently serves as the chair of EMAB. She provides expert advice on intergovernmental and stakeholder engagement, environmental stewardship, large project planning, and risk assessment.
