
Janis M. Parenti serves as Manager for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Livermore Field Office (LFO), a position she has held since June 2023.
She leads a team of approximately 90 Federal and contractor staff responsible for the administration and oversight of a management and operating contract with an annual budget of approximately $3 billion, a workforce of more than 8,000 people, and several billion dollars in government-owned facilities and assets. She is responsible for the implementation of national security and nonproliferation missions by providing oversight of program management, nuclear operations, security, quality assurance, environment, safety and health, and the overall execution of key mission deliverables at NNSA’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She is a member of the Senior Executive Service.
She was previously the Acting Manager and the Deputy Manager for LFO.
Ms. Parenti’s years of experience include legal, environmental management, infrastructure, environmental compliance, safety, business, and contract management. She began her Federal career at the Department of Energy’s Oakland Operations Office where she served as an environmental attorney, then moved to the Livermore Field Office where she served concurrently as LFO’s senior legal advisor and its Assistant Manager for Business. She provided comprehensive professional legal services and legal counsel in all areas of law and legal policy arising from the operations at the Livermore Site, and managed all contract administration, contractor performance evaluation, Freedom of Information Act, information technology, human resources, budget, training, and audit activities.
Prior to joining the Federal government, Ms. Parenti was an associate attorney at the San Francisco-based law firm of Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos, & Rudy. She graduated cum laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law where she served on the Law Review.
