Wayne Jones, NNSA Associate Administrator for Information Management and Chief Information Officer

Wayne Jones serves as Associate Administrator for Information Management, and Chief Information Officer for NNSA. He is responsible for managing and implementing operational, technical, and administrative functions in support of NNSA cybersecurity and information management program.

Mr. Jones ensures integration and coordination of cybersecurity and information technology support activities and functions throughout the Nuclear Security Enterprise. He directs, reviews, and assesses the development, implementation, and maintenance of critical cybersecurity assets to ensure they support national security goals, NNSA strategies, and the continuity of operations of critical information technology assets. He is NNSA's principal advisor for cybersecurity and information management and operations. Mr. Jones represents the Department of Energy in both internal and external forums regarding cybersecurity, information management, and telecommunications.

Prior to NNSA, Mr. Jones worked as Chief Technology Officer for the Department of Defense's (DoD) Missile Defense Agency, where he was responsible and accountable for developing and launching a strategic plan and related management execution plan; revitalizing technology infrastructure through improved information system policies and network strategies; establishing technology risk assessment and information system threat methodologies; guiding staff in daily operations; and advising the chief information officer on national security issues and organizational strategies. Prior to that, he was a DoD Information Technology Manager. He joined DoD after serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Jones is a certified DoD Chief Information Officer and Acquisition Program Manager for Information Technology.

He earned bachelor of science degrees at Lane College in both mathematics and business administration. He earned a masters degree in information technology and system engineering from George Washington University and a masters in business administration at the University of La Verne. He is a graduate of the Information Resource Management College at the National Defense University and earned his Federal Chief Information Officer certification and Information Assurance Certification NIST 4011 at the Defense Acquisition University.
