The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Triton Anchor, LLC (Triton) to develop and numerically model a Marine Energy Converter (MEC) and Co-use MEC platform arrays to challenge current anchoring behavior and derive anchor optimizations tailored specifically to omni-directional loading scenarios through physical centrifuge testing.
Funding will support the project team's small-scale research and development of a technology approach to large-scale, dynamic energy transport by using electrochemical processes and existing logistics infrastructure by leveraging globally abundant, non-critical metals to serve as energy carriers and innovative metal-air fuel cells and low temperature metal electrolyzers for energy conversion.
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is proposing to partner with the DOE Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) to use uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) to capture high-definition video and photographs of the Pioneer Wave Energy Converter (WEC) project located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
