In 1988, the United States Congress designated the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. Disability Employment Awareness Month is a time to educate all DOE employees about disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions that DOE employees with disabilities make on a daily basis in support of the DOE mission.
