James Jensen joined the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy as an engineer in March 2024. Duty stationed in Golden, Colorado, he serves in the technical assistance group, supporting Indian Tribes, Alaska Native Villages, and Tribal and intertribal organizations in realizing their energy goals.    

James has nearly 20 years of experience working with Tribes and Alaska Native Villages on energy-related efforts. Prior to joining the team at DOE, James spent the previous 7 years supporting the Office of Indian Energy as a contractor working on Tribal energy webinars, administration of financial assistance awards, and technical assistance. Looking further back in his career, James gained valuable experience working at Alaska Energy Authority, where he focused on wind energy and combined heat and power projects and opportunities in Alaska Native Villages. James eventually left Alaska for warmer and sunnier climates and worked for the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute Tribes on community- and utility-scale renewable energy development projects and investments.  

James holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the Naval Postgraduate School.
