DOE Office of Indian Energy College Summer Internship: JoDonna John Video Transcript

[Introduces herself in Navajo]

What attracted me to this internship program here at Sandia National Labs is I wanted to expand my knowledge on Native American tribes that are interested in renewable energy…specifically photovoltaic systems.

I became interested in renewable energy when I was a young girl. My grandmother, she had a solar panel by her house and I didn’t know how it worked…I didn’t know that it produced energy. So I took courses in college to understand how the system works.

The biggest takeaway from this internship program is that each tribe is unique and they each have a different cultural belief…and their cultural belief should be taken into consideration. For a project to be successful, there should be support behind it.

I would recommend this internship program here at Sandia National Labs to individuals who are interested in renewable energy…you’ll get to interact with people that are knowledgeable and are working on renewable energy projects.
