March 7 Virtual Tribal Listening Session: Offshore Wind Electricity Transmission

Tribal Nations were invited to a virtual Tribal Listening Session to discuss West Coast offshore wind electricity transmission on Thursday, March 7, 2024, hosted by DOE’s Grid Deployment Office and DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The goal of the Listening Session was to hear Tribal Nations’ concerns, goals, and insights in the offshore wind transmission space to help DOE and BOEM tailor their engagement, better serve Tribal needs, and to establish pathways for successful collaboration.

Throughout 2024, DOE and BOEM are hosting a Convening Series to discuss West Coast offshore wind transmission planning. The result of the Convening Series will be a set of recommendations and actions for addressing transmission challenges on the West Coast including California, Oregon, and Washington, building from the recently published Atlantic Offshore Wind Transmission Action Plan. This Listening Session provides an early opportunity for Tribal Nations’ input before starting the convening workshops.

Future events will focus on a wider range of issues and be appropriate for a wider audience.
