The 2,289-kW PV system is designed to generate 3,641 MWh of energy annually.
In 2013, the Amarillo Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System constructed a 2.28-MW PV covered parking project at the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center that provides about 30% of the center’s electricity and saves approximately $245,000 annually. Integrating the PV system with thermal storage load shifting has made the Amarillo VA the first VA medical center to export electricity back to the local utility during peak solar generation. The VA designed the ice thermal storage system to shift the center's air conditioning load from the day to the nighttime.
