Duties/Description
This position is in the Point Source Carbon Capture division within the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. The division provides Headquarters oversight, management, and direction of the DOE’s research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities for carbon capture on point sources in both the power and industrial sectors, such as natural gas plants and cement plants. This division also supports cross-cutting approaches, such as fuel switching, e.g., coal to natural gas or biomass waste coupled to carbon capture.
The incumbent in this position will:
- Manage all activities of the Point Source Carbon Capture division.
- Supervise a multi-disciplinary team of experts and technical personnel in RD&D programs and activities to improve the economic impact and environmental performance of point source carbon capture.
- Provide strategic direction for, and coordination of point source carbon capture technologies and projects.
- Direct RD&D activities and provide active program management to ensure program and technical goals are met. Provide up-to-date guidance on administration and congressional policy and priorities in point source carbon capture.
- Evaluate integrated policies impacting point source carbon capture technology RD&D programs to make authoritative judgements on concepts, plans, and initiation of new projects.
- Advise on patents and intellectual property positions associated with engineering and/or physical science and process inventions.
- Develop long range plans; organize and direct the work of a team; and provide expert advice to senior leadership.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must demonstrate:
- Experience leading and directing the work of a technical team.
- Ability to set strategic direction for, and coordination of point source carbon capture technologies projects.
- Knowledge of point source carbon capture technical components, such as post-, pre-, and oxy-combustion approaches; process engineering; chemistry; and gas separations.
- Ability to evaluate integrated policies impacting point source carbon capture technology research, development, and demonstration programs to make authoritative judgements on concepts, plans, and initiation of new projects.
- Experience developing long range plans and providing expert advice to senior leadership.
