August 31, 2021Remarks of Acting Assistant Secretary for FECM Dr. Jennifer Wilcox as prepared at DOE Hydrogen Shot Summit on August 31, 2021
Good morning and thank you all for joining us today.
We at DOE are committed to the President’s goal of fully decarbonizing the U.S. economy by 2050, and hydrogen is one of the most promising decarbonization pathways.
In FECM, we’re particularly excited about the potential of non-electrolytic hydrogen – which could help ensure that near-term capital investments are hydrogen-ready, while enabling a long-term path to zero GHG emissions that avoids lock-in for existing, highly polluting pathways.
Our non-electrolytic hydrogen efforts address major synergistic activities –including reducing methane emissions from the entire natural gas supply chain and characterizing proven, effective methods for carbon capture and secure, long-term storage.
I welcome the opportunity to talk more about FECM’s hydrogen work, and I look forward to our discussion this morning.
