In addition to promoting transparency, public involvement is crucial for facilitating better decision-making. Stakeholders and members of the public may have a different perspective and a strong familiarity to the affected area and its unique characteristics and may be able to point out issues that were initially missed.

Stakeholders are invited to participate in multiple stages of the EIS review process, including the scoping and public comment periods. Stakeholders and other members of the public may be invited to participate in online or in-person public meetings or hearings. In addition, DOE may accept comments during these periods by email, fax, or mail.
