Candice Robertson is currently serving as the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) in the Office of Environmental Management (EM). In this role she works to enable the safe and successful execution of the EM mission, while providing management oversight of activities, operations, and program integration across Department of Energy (DOE) field sites.
She has nearly 20 years of experience managing critical business functions in both the public and private sectors and is knowledgeable about all aspects of EM’s mission and operations. Prior to becoming the PDAS she served as a Senior Advisor to DOE Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm and DOE Deputy Secretary David M. Turk. She has served as Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff to three DOE Deputy Secretaries including Dan Brouillette and Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall.
From May 2018 until March 2020, Robertson served as the DOE Chief Human Capital Officer overseeing all aspects of human capital management for the department’s workforce of over 13,000 federal employees. She was responsible for developing and implementing effective human capital policies including recruiting, development, training, and managing a highly skilled, productive, and diverse workforce.
She has also served in multiple management and leadership roles in EM. Between July 2016 to August 2017, she served as the EM APDAS for Corporate Services and Chief Communications Officer where she was responsible for leading and overseeing the strategic corporate operations and essential business services necessary to support and enable the over $7 billion EM cleanup program. Responsibilities included resource management, acquisition, project and program management, strategic planning, and internal and external communications. In addition, she served as acting APDAS for Field Operations, Director of External Affairs, Chief of Staff, and Senior Communications Advisor.
She began her DOE career in 2008 in the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management as an intergovernmental relations specialist in Las Vegas, Nev. Prior to her government career she was a Nye County, Nevada Commissioner and a Director of Government and Client Relations with Robison/Seidler.
