Electric Vehicles at Scale Consortium: Advanced Charging and Grid Integration Technologies

Electric vehicle charged at a charging station.

Advanced electric vehicle (EV) charging and grid integration technology evaluation enables early-stage EV stations and equipment characterization to accelerate grid interaction and resiliency of EV charging. These technologies hold potential to bolster consumer confidence and protect stations as demonstrated in the eVISION project.

The Advanced Charging and Grid Integration Technologies focus area will incubate and develop advanced hardware components, subsystems, and systems required to advance the resiliency of EV charging stations and equipment.

This capability will especially improve station and charger controls, communications, protection, diagnostics, prognostics, and architectures. Current challenges facing these technologies include equipment and balance-of-system cost and reliability, safety, operation, and maintenance, as well as those posed by the electric grid from disasters.
