Transportation plays an important role in the U.S. economy and contributed 8% to U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020. Transportation is the fourth-largest contributor (behind housing, healthcare, and food) to the national GDP, which measures the monetary value of goods and services in the United States.
