This photograph features the 2-megawatt photovotaic (PV) system that was installed at the U.S. Army Fort Carson base. The system was financed through a power purchase agreement (PPA) and developed by 3-Phases Energy Services. Western Area Power Administration is the contracting agent and will purchase the electricity, estimated at 3,200 megawatt hours per year, on behalf of Fort Carson. The renewable energy credits will be sold to Xcel Energy and used to meet the solar requirement of the state renewable energy standard. The ground-mounted, thin film PV system will cover nearly 15 acres on an old Fort Carson landfill. SunTechnics Inc. designed and constructed the project. The PV panels carry a 25-year warranty.
