Jay Wrobel

Jay Wrobel is the senior advisor for residential programming and utility strategy in the Building Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). At DOE, Wrobel supports technologies and practices that promote improved performance of residential structures. Jay also is overseeing an effort to enhance DOE collaboration with electric and gas utilities to advance utility promotion of efficiency, demand response, and grid-connected technologies. He has more than 20 years of experience in the energy, efficiency, and sustainability fields, including 10 years in DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program and Advanced Manufacturing Office.

Prior to DOE, Jay served as the executive director of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, principal engineer at the Gas Technology Institute, and energy analyst at Cambridge Energy Research Associates. Jay has a master’s degree in energy and environmental analysis from Boston University and an economics degree from the University of Chicago, and he started his career in the trading pits of the Chicago Board of Trade.
