Vision and Mission
The Penn State Wind Energy Club has participated in the U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition (CWC) every year since 2014. We care about wind energy because it will likely be a key part of a future world, in which a modernized grid is powered by a mixture of renewable energy sources and energy storage. The CWC provides us the training and networking opportunities that are essential to become part of the wind energy workforce and that future.
Background
The 2022 event will mark our ninth CWC. We won first place in 2021, swept the competition in 2019, and won the Market Issue Presentation in 2014. Our club includes students majoring in many fields. We recruit new members by speaking to classes and other clubs as well as attending involvement fairs. We have begun hosting monthly social events and launched a team hosting professional development events.
Our team structure includes the Project Development team and Test Turbine team, which has Aerodynamics, Electronics and Software, Generator/Structures subteams. We also have the Social and Outreach team, which coordinates recruitment and social events.

Strategy
To succeed in this competition, we will schedule our time meaningfully, set and meet milestones, and build social relationships with our team members—win or lose. The Penn State Wind Energy Club works well together as a team. We genuinely care about each other, and this gives us a sense of community.
We have and will continue to connect and develop relationships with several members of the wind energy industry, including representatives from the land-based, offshore, and research and development sectors.
