On October 30, 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking teams of students to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition 2016. First held in 2014 at the American Wind Energy Association Annual Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, the Collegiate Wind Competition challenges teams to design and construct a wind-driven power system, develop a business plan to market their product, and demonstrate their knowledge of current and emerging issues facing the wind industry. This multidisciplinary Competition brings together students in the fields of engineering, business, marketing, communications, policy, and the social sciences, for the purpose of engaging our country's future workforce in the wind industry. The Competition is open to undergraduate students from two- and four-year institutions of higher education.
