In August 2013, RMI (Rocky Mountain Institute) published the "Building Energy Modeling Guide for Owners and Managers." The guide "de-mystifies" energy modeling by plainly explaining its benefits and limitations and properly setting expectations. Templates for engaging with and contracting for with energy modeling services help potential clients streamline projects and maximize benefit. Case studies featuring real projects demonstrate both process and outcomes.

Launched in September 2014, unmethours.com is a peer-to-peer question-and-answer site for energy modelers. Similar to the stackexchange.com sites, unmethours.com allows modelers to help one another with problems, share resources and workarounds, and effectively accumulate and index domain, task-specific, and tool-specific knowledge. The name of the site references a key energy modeling diagnostic, the number of hours in a year during which a building's HVAC systems are not able to meet the specified internal temperature and moisture conditions.
