Blake Lajiness is an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), Science, Technology, and Policy Fellow in the Department of Energy's (DOE) Building Technologies Office. His work focuses on residential decarbonization modeling and analysis, helping enable key DOE stakeholders toward successfully decarbonizing the built environment. Blake sees value in having a close connection with DOE stakeholders, such as state energy offices, utilities, and analysts.
Prior to DOE, Blake worked at Center for Energy and Environment, where he led the establishment of a commercial building benchmarking program for a community in Michigan. Benchmarking is a voluntary and easy way for buildings to reduce energy consumption by simply tracking energy use and instituting low- and no-cost energy-saving solutions, such as HVAC scheduling. His program experience informs his work at DOE and may serve as a blueprint for other communities seeking to start a voluntary benchmarking program.
Blake has a B.S. in environmental studies and sustainability and B.A. in political science: public policy from Michigan State University. He is currently pursuing a M.S. in energy policy and climate from Johns Hopkins University.
