Rhona Stuart headshot

Dr. Rhona Stuart is a research scientist in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division of the Systems and Synthetic Biology Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where she has worked for more than 10 years. During this time, she has served as principal investigator for multiple bioenergy-related research projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technology Office and leads an ongoing DOE-sponsored project with multiple institutions on sustainable biofuel crop cultivation.

Rhona is an accomplished scientist with over 30 journal papers and her current research focuses on improving sustainable biomass cultivation through understanding the influence of microbes on feedstock crop productivity and system-level carbon allocation, and engineering microbial solutions to improve system productivity and resource utilization efficiency. Dr. Stuart holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California San Diego in ecology, behavior, and evolution and a Ph.D. in marine biology from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
