The Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) hosted the one-day Bioproducts to Enable Biofuels Workshop on July 16, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. BETO collected information from key industry, university, and national laboratory stakeholders regarding the challenges associated with the coproduction of biomass-derived chemicals and products alongside biofuels. The following are topic areas of interest covered at the workshop:

  • Identifying and evaluating economic drivers for producing bioproducts
  • Identifying and prioritizing bioproduct targets for production from biofuel waste streams, alongside biofuels, or at standalone facilities
  • Identifying research and development challenges associated with bioproduct production from biofuel waste streams, alongside biofuels, or at standalone facilities
  • Identifying environmental considerations (i.e., life-cycle analysis), carbon percentage dedicated to fuels versus products (i.e., split stream), and ideal intermediates for bioproduct production to enable biofuels.

Agenda

Information gathered during the workshop is available to the public in the following summary report: Bioproducts to Enable Biofuels Workshop Summary Report.
