
Roger Jarrell serves as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) and is also currently acting in the Assistant Secretary role for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM). As the PDAS he works to enable the safe and successful execution of the EM mission, while providing management oversight of activities, operations, and program integration across Department of Energy field sites. He previously served as Senior Advisor for EM from January to April 2025, providing leadership for the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from eight decades of nuclear weapons development and government-sponsored nuclear research.
In the first Trump administration he served as EM’s key interface with the Office of the Secretary of Energy and other senior leadership, formulating cleanup strategies, coordinating EM's communication strategy, and providing key leadership to the cleanup program.
Prior to his current appointment with DOE, he served as the General Counsel and was previously the Government and Stakeholder Interface at United Cleanup Oak Ridge LLC.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from The Virginia Military Institute and a Juris Doctor degree from Washington and Lee University. After completing his law degree, he worked as a civil litigator in energy law and commercial and corporate litigation.
