NNSA Administrator visits Norway, a key ally, to discuss mutual goals and review progress on an innovative nonproliferation effort

Institute for Energy Technology CEO Nils Morten Huseby and Norwegian Nuclear Decommissioning CTO Nils Bøhmer, brief NNSA Administrator Jill Hruby and Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Sharon Hudson-Dean on the status of the project to eliminate Norway’s highly enriched uranium by downblending it into low-enriched uranium using the Mobile Melt Consolidate system.

The small-scale furnace, shown here, will be used for the first phase of the project, helping Norway dilute its highly enriched uranium (HEU) to low-enriched uranium. When the project concludes in a few years, Norway will be considered free of HEU.
