NNSA competitively awarded a contract to BWXT Ordnance Tennessee, a subsidiary of BWX Technologies, Inc., for the licensing, design, and operation of a High Purity Depleted Uranium production capability at the contractor’s site in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

NNSA completed the Last Production Unit (LPU) of the B61-12 Life Extension Program (LEP). The B61-12 is the latest modification to the B61 family of gravity bombs, which are deployed from U.S. Air Force and North Atlantic Treaty Organization bases.
NNSA verified completion of the First Production Unit (FPU) of a plutonium pit for the W87-1 Modification Program. A plutonium pit is a necessary component in America’s nuclear warheads.

Last week, NNSA welcomed international diplomats to Sandia National Laboratories and the Nevada National Security Site. It was part of an NNSA effort to show transparency about its work and U.S. support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
