On Tuesday, November 12, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. MT, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will host an in-person public meeting for the North Plains Connector (NPC) Project. The scoping meeting will be held at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds in the Custer County Event Center, located at 42 Garryowen Road, Miles City, MT. Registration is not required.
The event will start with a brief presentation. Attendees are welcome to drop in at any time during the event hours to learn more about the NPC and ask questions.
The NPC is a proposed 525-kilovolt (kV), high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) overhead transmission line that would connect the Eastern and Western Interconnections (the eastern and western electric grids in the U.S.). As proposed, the NPC would extend approximately 420 miles from near Colstrip, Montana, to two separate end points in North Dakota: one near Center, North Dakota, and the other near St. Anthony, North Dakota.
DOE is hosting the scoping meeting with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), a joint preparer of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The agencies will also be joined by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), who will be participating in the environmental review as cooperating agencies.
Please note that all feedback must be submitted via email or mail. Oral comments will not be accepted during the scoping meeting.
