Zachary Medley is a rising senior from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville majoring in chemical engineering with a minor in environmental engineering. Zachary is based out of DOE HQ assisting with a hybrid power plant project–incorporating solar power and energy storage as green hydrogen and a turbine that uses a mixture of natural and hydrogen gas. His project focuses on producing energy that will emit a low amount of carbon thus making solar energy more reliable.

Zachary’s ultimate career goal is to work in the energy industry or environmental remediation, so he was elated to be chosen for the MLEF program to learn more about federal strategies that manage the energy grid. He believes through scientific concepts and their calculations, most of the world’s major problems can be solved. Zachary’s scientific curiosity and desire for knowledge and problem solving connects to his personal interest in trivia.
