Making the Final Grade at Hanford’s WTP

RICHLAND, Wash. – The first area of utility support infrastructure at Hanford’s Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) is now fully operational as EM Office of River Protection contractor Bechtel National, Inc., recently completed final grading, earthwork, and stormwater systems around its fuel oil and water treatment facilities. WTP employees Tanny Doan, left, and Joseph Ramos inspect and test wiring for a light post. Final grading and earthwork will continue through mid-2021 around the Low-Activity Waste Facility, Analytical Laboratory and 14 utility support buildings as they become operational to begin treating tank waste by the end of 2023.
