Cincinnati - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the award of a Cost-Plus-Award Fee contract to Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) of Los Alamos, NM. This bridge contract is for the Office of Environmental Management (EM) funded legacy cleanup activities at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). LANS is formed by the University of California, Bechtel, Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services, and URS Energy and Construction.

Since 2006, the legacy cleanup activities at the LANL have been performed by LANS under a Management and Operating Contract managed by the National Nuclear Security Administration. This bridge contract is being issued by EM as part of the efforts to transition EM-funded legacy cleanup activities at LANL. It also serves as an interim action to facilitate successful completion of the necessary near-term work scope with the least amount of disruption, and provide EM sufficient time to competitively award a performance-based incentive contract(s) for the longer term legacy cleanup requirements at LANL. The contract will have a maximum value of $309,790,556 with a one-year base period and two six-month option periods.

The services to be provided under the contract include, but are not limited to:

Solid Waste Stabilization and Disposition
Soil and Water Remediation
Deactivation and Decommissioning of Defense Nuclear Facilities

The mission of the Office of Environmental Management is to complete the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from five decades of nuclear weapons development and Government-sponsored nuclear energy research.
