Edith Chalk

Edie Chalk is the Director for the Office of Classification within the Office for Environment, Health, Safety and Security at the Department of Energy (DOE).

The Office of Classification manages the Government-wide program to classify and declassify nuclear weapons-related technology as authorized under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, and implements the requirements of Executive Order 13526 regarding the classification and declassification of information that is vital to national security.

Ms. Chalk has 39 years of experience in the defense and weapons-related field. Prior to becoming Director, Ms. Chalk served 28 years in the Office of Classification. Ms. Chalk began her career as a process chemical engineer where she formulated propellants and explosives at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, Maryland.

Ms. Chalk has a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University.
