Lorain County Community College Instructors install PV modules on training roof labs during the Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s Train-the-Trainer PV Instructor Institute course.

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) works with EERE as a critical regional partner helping to accelerate market adoption of solar technologies by “training the trainers” in high quality solar installation instruction throughout the Midwest. In this effort, MREA is organizing a network of instructors, installers, engineers, building code inspectors, community college administrators, and other industry stakeholders to deliver effective instructional resources for installing solar technologies. MREA is one of nine regional training providers in EERE’s  Solar Instructor Training Network addressing a critical need for high-quality, local, and accessible training in solar system design, installation, sales, and inspection. Excellent, locally-based training helps streamline the process of installing residential and small commercial rooftop solar systems, making solar energy both more accessible and affordable. With EERE support, MREA will provide instructor development opportunities and also create sustainable jobs within the solar installation industry.

The Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) focuses on achieving the goals of the SunShot Initiative, which seeks to make solar energy cost-competitive with other forms of electricity by the end of the decade.

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) success stories highlight the positive impact of its work with businesses, industry partners, universities, research labs, and other entities.
