Solar Energy Systems Designer Profile:
Perform site-specific engineering analysis of commercial, industrial, or utility-scale solar projects. Design large PV, solar hot water or space heating systems.

As part of the clean energy economy, Solar Energy Systems Designers: Design PV or solar thermal systems; Create electrical three-line diagrams for solar electric systems using computer-aided design software; Develop design specifications and requirements for solar energy systems; Perform computer simulation of solar PV generation system performance to optimize efficiency; Provide technical support to installation teams; Develop standard operation procedures and safety standards for solar installation work; Perform a variety of analyses for solar systems.

Job Responsibilities:
Work with clients to determine top level design parameters and criteria; Refer to engineering tables and code books to accurately draft technical drawings and diagrams of electrical circuitry and/or thermodynamics of solar systems and components; Draw topographical maps of proposed solar sites; Develop budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs; Provide technical direction or support to installation teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring; Develop design specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve solar design objectives; Test or evaluate photovoltaic (PV) cells or modules
