Fellowships

ORISE Science and Technology Policy Fellowship

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Science, Technology and Policy (STP) Program provides opportunities for advanced degree graduates, postgraduates, established scientists, and faculty with a range of experience levels to apply their expertise to current and future policy and technical initiatives in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Participants hold appointments at DOE Headquarters and receive hands on experience that provides them with an understanding of the IEDO  mission, operation, and culture. ORISE is a DOE institute managed by Oak Ridge Associated Universities that creates collaboration opportunities through partnerships with other DOE facilities, federal agencies, academia, and industry to strengthen the nation’s research and development enterprise and advance science education in a manner consistent with DOE objectives and the ORISE mission.

Application Timeframe: ORISE accepts position requests and applicants on a rolling basis.
Term Length: Up to five years.

AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship

DOE hosts American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF), designed to establish and nurture critical links between federal decision-makers and scientific professionals in supporting the creation of beneficial public policy. The DOE AAAS STPF Program provides opportunities to scientists and engineers to participate in policy related projects.

Each year, EERE seeks talented and passionate AAAS Fellows that can support technical, programmatic, strategic, and policy efforts that will meet clean energy goals and drive innovation in U.S. manufacturing.

Qualified candidates will have a strong technical background in an engineering field or applicable physical sciences (e.g. materials, chemistry, and physics) and preferably experience in industry. Fellows will work closely with DOE staff – including several former Fellows – and will develop a broad understanding of the potential of new technologies as well as the barriers to technology deployment.

Application Timeframe: The deadline for applications is November 1 each year. From February through early April, a panel of reviewers will evaluate and make selections. Apply here
Term Length: Up to two years; terms typically start in September.
