Mohammed Khan is a technology project officer within BTO's Emerging Technologies program. In this position he manages projects that are awarded through the competitive funding process, and is involved with the development of DOE funding opportunities. He also manages the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) portfolio in Emerging Technologies. He earned a BSME from the University of Maryland and is a certified TPO.

Mr. Khan has successfully managed many federal rulemakings promulgating DOE energy conservation standards for both residential appliances and commercial building equipment.  Prior to joining DOE, he was a lead technical advisor at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Directorate for Engineering Sciences, where he managed product safety investigations resulting in recalls, corrective actions and new industry safety standards for a variety of consumer products.  Mr. Khan has also designed and tested weapons systems for the U.S. Navy, aided in the development of the U.S.’s first cryogenically cooled neutron flux moderator at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and holds two U.S. patents.
